Merriment Is In The Air...

Fall has befallen us yet again, but before the crackling leaves and crisp wintry air get us down and we find ourselves burrowing indoors like hibernating groundhogs, shivering with delirium by the electric fire, let us warm the cockles of our hearts with a jolly toast to the autumn season at The Empty Room's Halloween Show Fundraiser Party!

Join musical guests such as The Night Knights, Johnny Right, Henry Nozuka and Ed Hillier on Thursday October 6th at the Hard Luck Bar on Dundas St. west as we raise a glass to the good things ahead!

Halloween comes a-haunting...

 Hey friends,

This coming Halloween, prepare yourselves for a special treat; on October 29th, the Empty Room will host an evening of ghost stories and spooky tales presented by a cohort of distinguished and emerging Toronto directors. Taking place at the Hub14 theatre (Queen / Bathurst,) the series will be performed as a continuous cycle beginning at sunset. Drop in at any time and stay as long as you dare; one ticket will grant you admittance for eternity (or at the very least, the entire evening.)

More on this later, official press release to follow soon.

Happy haunting!

Farewell to a great Canadian

Jack Layton was a Great Canadian, one who will be sorely missed.

In an open letter to the Canadian people he waved his last farewell, reminding us that even in times of mourning, turmoil, war and depression "love is better than anger, hope is better than fear [and] optimism is better than despair." Let us honour the memory of him by being "loving, hopeful and optimistic" so that together "we’ll change the world."

Tonight we drink to Jack, a man who fought the good fight, only to be defeated by the bad.

To blog or not to blog...

To blog, it seems, is the way to go these days,
Though I wouldn't call myself a fool for the craze,
I would go so far as to propose we raise
A toast, to what is a brand new phase;
A new tradition of communiqués,
That may even prove to shock and amaze
Its readers  (cajoled from their everyday daze,
They head for parliament to pillage and raze!)
Or, perhaps, it'll convince them to see a few plays.
